US Attorneys General Have Launched An Investigation Into The Effects Of TikTok On Young People.

A bipartisan coalition of attorneys general is investigating whether TikTok is structured and promoted in a "manner that causes or exacerbates physical and mental health harms" for kids and teens.

The officials are looking into whether the corporation broke any consumer protection rules or put the public at risk, led by Massachusetts Attorney General Maura Healy.

Attorneys general in the United States have launched an investigation into the effects of TikTok on young people.
Regulators will look at the methods used by the company to attract and retain youthful users.

The probe will examine into whether TikTok is harmful to young people's "physical health and mental wellness."

“As children and teens already grapple with issues of anxiety, social pressure, and depression, we cannot allow social media to further harm their physical health and mental wellbeing,” Healey said in a news release on Wednesday.

According to the press release announcing the probe, the investigation will look into whether TikTok usage causes harm to young people and whether the corporation was aware of those harms. "The inquiry focuses, among other things, on TikTok's tactics and procedures for improving youthful user engagement, such as increasing the duration of time spent on the platform and frequency of contact with the platform," according to the press release.
The authorities' concerns are well-founded. Last year, a group of attorneys general criticized Facebook's treatment of its younger users and asked the company to scrap plans to launch an Instagram for youngsters.
