Netflix Is Now Available In HD And HDR For Google Pixel 6 Owners.

Users of the Google Pixel 6 and Google Pixel 6 Pro can now watch Netflix in HD and HDR on their devices just over four months after they were released.

Netflix updated its support page on January 27 to include the Google Pixel 6 phones – as well as the Google Pixel 5a – as HD and HDR compatible devices (via SlashGear).

Owners of the Pixel 5a, which was released six months ago in August 2021, will see the change even later. It's unclear why Netflix took so long to whitelist the latest Pixel phones, particularly the Pixel 5a, but any concerns appear to have been fixed.

Users of the Google Pixel 6 and 6 Pro may now experience crisp visuals from the TV streaming service on their OLED panels.

The Basic plan, which costs $9.99 / £5.99 / AU$10.99 a month and only includes standard-definition video, will be unaffected by this change.
You must be a Standard subscriber ($15.49 / £8.99 / AU$16.99 per month) or a Premium subscriber ($19.99 / £13.99 / $22.99 per month) to watch HD content.

Interestingly, despite the fact that the Premium tier includes access to UHD (or 4K) video, the newly whitelisted Pixel phones are unable to display it in its entirety.

Regardless, the Pixel 6's FHD+ (2400 x 1080 pixels) and Pixel 6 Pro's QHD+ (3120 x 1440) displays could benefit from the clarity provided by a downscaled 4K image over an upscaled HD image.
