A global team of experts will begin full-scale trials in Kenya to investigate if solar panels can help the country generate electricity while also addressing food security concerns. According to The Guardian, a prior smaller trial that lasted a year yielded promising results.
Solar panels have long been known to solve energy problems, particularly in remote areas of the globe. However, putting them on the ground depletes a valuable resource: land. It is critical that we preserve arable land in the face of climate change and a growing population to feed. Now, a new approach known as agrivoltaics allows us to grow crops and generate electricity on the same piece of land.
