Sweeney's previous account, @Elonjet, was used to track Musk's plane, which he had publicly refused to take down despite Musk's direct request. Musk had offered Sweeney $5,000 to close the account earlier in January, but the teenager refused to accept anything less than a Tesla.
Sweeney, in his defense, isn't breaking the law because he's only republishing information that already exists in the public domain. In a pinned tweet on his Twitter feed, he emphasizes his position even more.
Now, the 19-year-old is employing the same technique to follow Russian oligarchs' private jets. @RUOligarchJets has over 93,000 followers and has tweeted about billionaires' planes and helicopters, including those of Roman Abramovich, Alisher Usmanov, and Alexander Abramov, to name a few, while @PutinJet tracks Vladimir Putin's and other VIPs' airplanes in Russia.
