Following Ukraine's request for crypto donations to aid in its resistance to Russia's invasion, crypto projects, stakeholders, and creators have all made waves. The figures speak for themselves: more than $24 million in cryptocurrency is said to have arrived in the country.
Cardano's community is now under pressure to donate. Founder Charles Hoskinson, as is customary, produced a film to clarify his position.
Others, like as Polkadot creator Gavin Wood, had donated to Ukraine, but Hoskinson made it obvious that he was not planning to drop a few million dollars in ADA anytime soon.
In particular, Hoskinson pointed out that he wasn’t sure whether the donations would only be used for citizen welfare or controlled by a “puppet regime” in the future. He also mentioned it was easier to teach a man to fish than to give him fish. Hoskinson warned,
“Given the nature of cryptocurrencies, it’s entirely possible [that] if the Ukrainian government is invaded, for the wallets that hold those funds in Kiev to just basically disappear and people will assert that the keys have been lost or the people who knew them are dead, and in reality they actually were stolen.”
Instead, Hoskinson urged that the Cardano community contribute to support Ukrainian refugees in other countries.
