NASA stated that five plastic sheets as thin as human hair and coated with reflective material that will shield the James Webb Space Telescope have been successfully deployed.
Since its launch on Christmas Day, space fans have been waiting to see if the JWST's sunshield, which is supposed to protect the sensitive sensors on board, would perform as expected. The JWST must overcome 344 possible points of failure to take the position of the mighty Hubble, and deploying the sunshield is a big accomplishment.
