The Global Times, China's state-run news agency, claims that the country has produced the world's largest electric-powered quadruped bionic robot. And, to be honest, it looks just like a yak.
Aside from the odd appearance, this is the latest step in China's push to become the global leader in robots by 2025. And, of course, military technology.
Is it, however, effective?
Despite its massive size and bulk, the robot can walk forward, backward, pivot, and even walk diagonally. Thanks to an astonishing 12 sets of joint modules, it can even gallop and dash and jump high without losing its footing. Sensors are built into the mechanical yak to keep it in touch with the terrain and environment. It can also adapt to a variety of terrains, including muddy roads, grasslands, deserts, and snowfields, as well as steps, trenches, and cliffs. There's even more. The robot could be armed with weapons in addition to its adaptive skills.
